Recently had an interview at a new and fast growing production company. Interview went ok although was surprised by the technical nature of some questions. EG: 'what is the difference between intra-frame and inter-frame compression?'.. Easy?!
I did read up on this once about five years ago, after becoming the proud owner of an EX1. However, not having had much call to use this knowledge, the acronym GOP was about all I could muster from memory., this came up again a couple of days later while uploading a show reel for somebody. Decided must get to the bottom of this and have started writing my own idiots guide to compression, which i may continue on to a kind of assistant editor man(ual). Read extracts here
